| During a strike on the northeast railway line 10 miles northeast of Kep a flight of three Thunderchiefs was tasked with attacking some of the many anti-aircraft gun positions around the target. Capt Cushman’s aircraft (call sign Devil 2) was hit in the rear fuselage by AAA and disintegrated and crashed shortly afterwards a few miles to the north. No parachute was seen and it was thought that Capt Cushman either died in the crash or died of his wounds soon after landing. A witness was found in 1992 who claimed that the pilot’s body had been buried but that it was later washed away in a flood. |
