Strikes against POL targets once again dominated USAF activity over North Vietnam but resulted in the loss of a further three aircraft. A flight of Phantoms was approaching Thai Nguyen from the west when one of the aircraft (call sign Satan) was shot down by an SA-2 SAM. 1Lt Nasmyth ejected and was captured but was later told by his captors that his pilot had died in the aircraft. John Nasmyth was released on 18 February 1973 and the remains of Ray Salzarulo were returned to the USA on 13 September 1990.
