| A section of Crusaders was assigned to fly a close air support mission against Viet Cong troops under the control of a FAC south of Tam Ky. 1Lt Sherman was making his second run at the target when his aircraft (call sign Condole) was shot down by ground fire five miles southeast of Phuoc An. A JTF-FA investigation team visited the crash site in 1993 and discovered that local villagers had buried the pilot’s body near the wreckage. The site was excavated and remains and personal items recovered. However, it was not until July 1998 that a positive identification could be announced. |
