Capt Robert Edward Bush (KIA)

Armed reconnaissance missions were proving just as costly as major Rolling Thunder strikes as another F-105 loss on the 24th illustrates. Capt Bush’s aircraft (call sign Walnut) was hit by ground fire in the starboard wing and crashed in the mouth of the Sou Giang River 15 miles north of Dong Hoi. Nothing more was heard of the fate of Capt Bush until 15 December 1988 when the Vietnamese handed over human remains that were identified in September the following year as being those of Robert Bush.
