| Cdr Hubert Bradford Loheed (KIA) |
| Cdr Loheed, the CO of VA-146, led a four-aircraft section on a raid against barges on the coast 20 miles north of Vinh. With a layer of cloud at about 1,000 feet, the first two aircraft released their ordnance and pulled up into a nose high wingover but Cdr Loheed's aircraft (call sign Busy Bee 600) then entered a steep dive. Cdr Loheed was seen to enter the cloud but his wingman then lost sight of him and he was not seen or heard from again. It was surmised that he may have been incapacitated by ground fire. Hubert Loheed was posted as missing in action until his remains were handed over and identified in August 1994, having been promoted to the rank of Captain during the time for which he was unaccounted. |
