| The first USAF casualty of the new year was a FAC pilot whose Bird Dog was shot down in flames by ground fire near Duc Hoa, 18 miles west of Tan Son Nhut. Capt Halbower was a graduate of the very first class at the Air Force Academy in 1959 and was the first member of his class to die in Southeast Asia. |
