| Following recent raids on the Uong Bi thermal power plant two Vigilantes, together with an escort, set off to obtain BDA photographs of the site. Radio contact with one of the Vigilantes (call sign Flint River 604) was lost at about the time it should have been over the target. Nothing was heard from the aircraft and there was no sign of any wreckage but it was strongly suspected that the aircraft had been shot down near the coast in the vicinity off Hon Gay. On 18 March 1977 the mortal remains of Guy Johnson, who had been promoted to Captain during the time he was regarded as missing in action, were handed over to US authorities by the Vietnamese. Post-war evidence indicates that Lee Nordahl was captured but probably died of wounds soon afterwards. |
