| In the same month as it lost a Skywarrior with all hands, the Ranger suffered another tragedy in January when two of its Phantoms collided in mid-air when they were returning from a BARCAP mission. Both aircraft crashed but only one crew managed to escape and were rescued. These Phantoms were the last aircraft lost by the Ranger before the end of its final war cruise in Southeast Asia. The carrier was decommissioned on 10 July 1993 and was stored at Bremerton, Washington until 2015 when it was towed to Brownsville, Texas for scrapping. |
