| The Wolfpack flew a strike on a target near Son Tay on the 6th but lost an aircraft and its crew. As the strike force drew close to Hanoi at 16,500 feet Lt Col Anderson’s aircraft (call sign Walnut) was damaged by a SAM. The crew ejected a few minutes later about 25 miles south of Yen Bai. The other members of the flight saw two good parachutes and the crew landed within a few hundred yards of each other near the Red River. Voice contact was made with both men and Lt Col Anderson reported that he was uninjured and could not see any enemy troops. 1Lt Latella was captured almost immediately but Lt Col Anderson never appeared in any of the known POW camps and did not return home. George Latella was released on 29 March 1973. |
