| An RF-4C (call sign Dodge 2) on an early morning weather reconnaissance mission was shot down by a SAM as it was flying at 13,000 feet about eight miles northeast of Kep. Hawaiian-born Maj Shingaki ejected and was captured but the pilot, Capt Behnfeldt did not survive the incident. Maj Shingaki was released on 29 March 1973. Capt Behnfeldt’s remains were returned by the Vietnamese on 24 September 1987 and formally identified in the following November. |
