| Another aircraft was downed by a SAM just north of the DMZ. A Wild Weasel (call sign Junior) was hit near the coastal village of Xom Quan Cat about 13 miles north of the DMZ. Although Capt Cutter and Capt Fraser ejected four miles off the coast they were captured by the North Vietnamese. Capt Cutter had previously served in Southeast Asia as a KC-135 tanker pilot before converting to the Thud. Capt Fraser was on his 90th mission when he was shot down and suffered a broken arm and temporary amnesia as a result of the ejection. Both men were released on 28 March 1973. This aircraft was the 800th F-105 Thunderchief of all models to be built for the USAF. |
