| The second Raven FAC to die in February was Capt Engle who, like Capt Uhls who had been killed 11 days earlier, had also served with the 21st TASS before transferring to the Ravens. Capt Engle crashed about 16 miles north of Vientiane. Charles Engle had been awarded an Air Force Cross for his actions on 22 June 1970 when he distracted enemy gunners who were shooting at a helicopter during an attempted rescue. Despite his O-1 being hit by bullets which cut a fuel line he dived between the enemy gun positions and the helicopter so that it could escape from the heavy ground fire. |
