| A Phantom (call sign Gunfighter 3) was hit by small arms fire seconds after it took off from Da Nang and was climbing through 1,000 feet. One of the aircraft’s engines caught fire so Capt Warner turned the Phantom out over the sea and he and Maj Kiefer ejected a few miles off the coast. They were picked up safely by two HH-53helicopters of the 37th ARRS. |
