| A flight of Phantoms was sent to bomb an NVA storage area near Ban Kaloung in southern Laos on the 17th. Maj Mirrer’s aircraft (call sign Gunfighter 13) was struck by AAA as it dived on the target from 7,000 feet. He turned his burning aircraft to the east and eventually crossed the coast. The crew ejected over the sea about 15 miles east of Da Nang but although Maj Siderius was found and rescued by a HH-53C helicopter from the 40th ARRS, Maj Mirrer could not be located. The crew were members of the 4th TFS on deployment to the 421st TFS from Eglin AFB. |
