| The second Misty FAC to be lost in January was damaged by 23mm flak about 10 miles northeast of Ban Talan. Capt Brown (call sign Misty 40) coaxed the damaged aircraft back into South Vietnam and took it out over the sea where he and Capt Farnsworth ejected about 12 miles off the coast near Tam Ky. After a short while in the water they were both picked up by a USAF helicopter, Capt Brown by a HH-43 and Capt Farnworth by a HH-3E. This was the first of two ejections made by Capt Farnsworth as he was shot down and rescued during another mission near Ban Talan exactly two months later. |
