| A Crusader from the Bon Homme Richard was lost when it suffered a control failure. The pilot ejected safely and was quickly rescued. This was the last aircraft lost by the Bon Homme Richard before it completed its fifth tour and left the line for its homeport of Alameda on 8 October. During 97 days on the line the ship had only had one combat loss but had lost a further 11 aircraft in accidents. The ship was fortunate in the sense that only two airmen were killed during the cruise. |
