| Another Da Nang F-4E was lost attacking VC lines of communications the following day. Col Dorman and 1Lt Bratton were attacking a target near Ba Gia, 10 miles northwest of Quang Ngai when they were shot down. The aircraft (call sign Stinger) had just pulled up from its fourth pass when it was hit in the fuselage by .50 calibre gun fire. The aircraft crashed about a mile from the target and neither of the crew survived the crash although 1Lt Bratton had ejected but at too low an altitude to survive. Col Dorman had flown the B-29 and B-47 with SAC earlier in his career. He had been in Vietnam for just over a month before he was killed and was due to take over as commanding officer of the 366th TFW within the next few days. |
