| Capt Dawson was returning to Tuy Hoa from a mission when the aircraft was seen to make a steep turn onto the final approach in gusty conditions when it stalled and crashed into the sea about a mile from the airfield. The canopy was seen to leave the aircraft as Capt Dawson tried to eject but no parachute was observed. Helicopters were over the scene almost immediately but only the dinghy, survival kit and helmet bag were recovered. |
