| A flight of F-100s was scrambled in response to a call for an air strike on enemy troops who were engaging friendly forces 30 miles northeast of Bien Hoa. 1Lt Williford made three successful passes but on his fourth run, as he was about to drop napalm, his aircraft (call sign Hawk) was hit by 12.7mm anti-aircraft fire. Williford managed to get about 10 miles south of the target area before he had to abandon the aircraft. An Army helicopter later rescued him.
