| Unconnected with the SAM hunt near Thanh Hoa, the Coral Sea sent a formation of Skyraiders to the more southerly provinces of North Vietnam on an armed reconnaissance mission. One flight found a group of parked trucks about 10 miles south of Vinh and attacked it but Lt Hyland’s aircraft (call sign Fleetwood 206) was hit by ground fire and was badly damaged. Lt Hyland managed to get five miles offshore before parting company with his A-1 and he was picked up by a USAF HU-16. |
