| A short time after the Corsair was shot down, a Nail FAC (call sign Nail 11) disappeared during a dusk mission near Tavouac in southern Laos, 20 miles southwest of the A Shau Valley. 1Lt Mascari was an F-4 pilot serving a tour as a FAC and was on his 33rd mission when he was lost. His parents visited Laos after the war in an attempt to discover their son’s fate and were told by a Laotian villager that he had been buried near his aircraft. |
