| Another Phantom was lost on the 22nd during a close air support mission in South Vietnam. A flight of F-4s was attacking a target five miles south of Da Lat when one of the aircraft (call sign Phantom 5) was hit by 12.7mm anti-aircraft fire. Maj Roth was making his fourth pass over the target at 2,500 feet when his Phantom burst into flames. He flew a few miles to the south before he and his WSO ejected. They were both picked up safely by an Army helicopter. |
