| As a Phantom was being catapulted from the Ranger, the catapult bridle separated from the aircraft prematurely and the aircraft’s nose dropped to the deck. The Phantom became airborne but then crashed into the sea just in front of the carrier. Only one of the crew managed to escape from the aircraft before it crashed. |
