| Another F-105 and its pilot was lost on a Steel Tiger mission the following day. Maj Colasuonno’s aircraft (call sign Hot Rod 1) was damaged by automatic weapons fire during a strike on a storage area near Ban Kok Nak, 35 miles west of the DMZ. He flew back across Laos into Thailand but he had to eject when the hydraulics failed and his aircraft crashed about 50 miles northwest of Ubon. Maj Colasuonno ejected at high speed and was very badly injured. He was picked up by a HH-3E but died on his way to hospital. |
