| The New Mexico ANG squadron lost an aircraft during a close air support mission against a VC base camp near Song Be City. The aircraft was hit by small arms fire as it dived on the target. Capt Williams (call sign Taco 11) headed back to Tuy Hoa and almost made it but he was forced to abandon his aircraft near the village of My Thanh, 15 miles southwest of the airfield. He was rescued by one of the base’s HH-43B Huskies of the 38th ARRS. |
