| The first F-4E model of the Phantom lost in combat in Southeast Asia was shot down on a night interdiction mission over the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Maj Utley and 1Lt Singleton made an attack on an intersection point near Ban Kate. During the attack the aircraft (call sign Detroit) was seen to crash, probably as a result of anti-aircraft fire. No parachutes were seen or emergency beepers heard and it was presumed that both men had been killed in the crash. |
