| In over five years of operations the Patricia Lynn detachment had only lost a single aircraft until 21 October. One of the unit’s aircraft (call sign Moonglow 1) was making a sensor run over a Viet Cong position three miles southeast of the town of Truc Giang in the Mekong Delta when it was hit. Flying straight and level at 2,000 feet, the aircraft ran into small arms fire that damaged the starboard engine causing it to catch fire. Moments later the two crew ejected and were later recovered with only minor injuries. The Patricia Lynn missions continued until the unit was inactivated in August 1971 and the four surviving RB-57s returned to the USA. |
