| Two Phantoms on an armed reconnaissance mission commenced an attack on a storage area 17 miles northwest of Dong Hoi. Following the attack the leader saw a large fireball on the ground and he soon realised that it was the wreckage of Maj Read’s aircraft (call sign Agile). The cause of the loss remains undetermined but was probably ground fire or target fixation. Neither of the crewmembers are thought to have ejected from the aircraft. |
