Maj Roger Dean Ingvalson (POW)

A flight of F-105s attacked troops and trucks five miles northwest of Dong Hoi during a Rolling Thunder mission. Maj Ingvalson, the 34th’s operations officer, was shot down by ground fire as he was strafing the target from 1,800 feet. The aircraft (call sign Gator) caught fire and the pilot ejected a mile from the target and was quickly captured. Maj Ingvalson was lost on his 87th mission and was released on 14 March 1973. In his long service career he had flown the F-80, F-86, F-89, F-94 and F-100. He later flew the A-7D with the 23rd TFW after returning from Vietnam. After retirement from the Air Force he founded a prison ministry, which he ran for 15 years before retiring. F-105D 61-0194 was painted as ‘The Avenger’ during its time with the 34th TFS.
