| To round off a bad day the USAF lost a forward air controller during a visual reconnaissance mission near Khe Sanh as night fell. The aircraft (call sign Covey 5) was flying at about 50 feet when its engine was hit by small arms fire. Capt Williams attempted a crash landing but he was killed and his observer, who was probably a Marine, was injured but recovered. |
