| The USAF lost two aircraft near Saigon on the 12th. In the first incident a flight of F-4s was circling near Xom Trum Thap, 13 miles northwest of Bien Hoa, as they were preparing to strafe and rocket a potential landing zone. Maj Rainwater’s aircraft (call sign Whiskey 2) suddenly dived into the ground from 1,000 feet, presumably the victim of ground fire. Both the crew ejected but only the WSO survived.
The following report regarding details of this loss to "friendly fire" has come to our attention: Friendly Fire Incident at Lei Khe from the 12th TFW Association. |
