While the Thanh Hoa raid was taking place, some 70 miles to the southwest an RF-101C was attempting to obtain photographs of a radar site near Phu Van on the Song Ca River to the east of Vinh. The aircraft was hit by AAA from the Tam Dao and Vinkh Quang AAA Regiments and the pilot ejected and was taken prisoner. Capt Morgan had flown his first sortie in Southeast Asia in October 1963 and was flying his 94th combat sortie when he was shot down. Like Vohden, he was released by the North Vietnamese on 12 February 1973 having spent seven years, 10 months and nine days in prison.
